We test lubricants, fuels-(petroleum and bio based) synthetic machine fluids and coolants, to provide our clients with information to support maintenance and reliability decisions. Our approach to testing is innovative, modern, and comprehensive, quality a given.
We test fluids for clients ranging from personal vehicles to large industrial equipment- We have considerable experience in monitoring turbines, compressors, hydraulic systems, gear systems and engines. We spend a lot of time getting to know a piece of equipment at the start of a monitoring program. This information is considered vital for determining the practical alarms and recommendations based upon the equipment characteristics. The BTS labs offer a variety of programs to suit customer needs.
Our History
Setting a new approach for condition monitoring oil analysis isn’t new to the founders of the company. In the 1970s and ‘80s they led the team developing ferrography (a magnetic wear debris separation technique) for the military.
Since that time, they recognized that spectrometric oil analysis was blind to large particles, the very particles indicative of an abnormal wear situation. Rotrode Filter Spectroscopy (RFS) was developed to detect those large particles, and a new company, National Tribology Services(NTS), was formed in 1992, to apply the technique commercially. The new company was led by Roger Rotondi (see bio) who steered the company growth from inception. In 2001 the company was acquired by Bently Nevada Corporation under the direction of Mr. Don Bently, a visionary in the field of machinery health monitoring. Bently Nevada Corp. was sold to GE Power Systems in 2002, and NTS became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bently Pressurized Bearing Company. The company opened a new lab in Nevada and has expanded its testing applications during this time, adding new personnel and equipment capabilities. The company changed its name from National Tribology Services to Bently Tribology Services in December 2006. The new name reflects the synergy we have with Bently family companies, and the name Bently is synonymous with machinery health monitoring and analysis.

Locations
There are two large well-equipped laboratories strategically located to serve our clients. One is in Peabody, Massachusetts, on Boston’s high-tech belt and the other is in Minden, Nevada, near Lake Tahoe (Go to the Contact/Visit Us Page for driving directions to both labs). By taking advantage of technology, BTS is able to test quickly, accurately and report results via a variety of media, especially electronic formats. Quick response combined with competitive pricing permits BTS to compete around the world for oil analysis services.
Software and Reporting
BTS supports all the major oil analysis trending software packages. Data can be exported to most major vibration monitoring software packages and web reporting is available on our website at: www.natribonline.com
Quality Assurance
Bently Tribology Services is an independent laboratory with a firm commitment to quality control. Our laboratories are currently certified to ISO 9001 and compliant with ISO/IEC Guide 25 and 10 CFR 50 App. B (Nuclear Power Quality Assurance) standards. The labs participate in the ASTM ILCP (Inter Laboratory Crosscheck Program) as well as other similar programs.
